I was really surprised, honestly, by how...simplistic? i guess? the meta posts about fandom compliment culture have been lately. maybe i'm jaded because i've been around, reading wank, for like a decade (and i'm not even a fandom old!), so i've seen most of this before.
I bear no ill will towards the lurkers, you know? I definitely was one for a LONG time before I was confident enough to join in discussions! It didn't mean that I wasn't loving things.
